Final Project › Behaviorist Activity

In this Behaviorist activity, I will be introducing design and color theories to students using the direct instruction approach, which will be fast-paced and I will provide constant interaction with the students. I will use a sequence of controlled steps, focus on small steps of learning and follow to the next concept. First I will describe the design theories and color theories and demonstrate how to use these theories to develop a sample product in step-by-step using an image editing software application (Adobe Photoshop/Fireworks), and students will also repeat the steps along with my demonstration . And finally students will practice the skill and I will provide feedback or they also will be able to use web-based rubric to get some instant feedback when I am busy with another students.

Course: Multimedia and Design

Objective:
After completing this session, the learner will be able to apply visual language
basic color harmony in their design.

Behavior:
Students will demonstrate their knowledge of visual language and color harmony by designing a web banner.

Conditions:
Students will use Adobe Photoshop CS2 software to create the file and use FTP software to upload the file on the server and use Mozilla Firefox to test the web content.

Degree: Students will create and upload the content on the web server and test in the web browser in 25 minutes.

Methods: Web-based content will be used to demonstrate the content and Adobe Photoshop will be used to demonstrate the hands-0n techniques and after the instructor assigns the practical work, the students will use the same tool to create and upload their content. Students will use a web based rubric and a checklist for reference. Each category and ratings of this rubric will help students to see if their work meets the assigned criteria or not. The interactive rubric will allow students to rate their work, calculate the average and print from the web page.

Media/Materials: Adobe Photoshop CS2, Macromedia Dreamweaver MX 2004, PowerPoint, Mozilla Firefox, computers, audio and video content, checklist, rubric, students’ account on the network drive, students’ account on the web server, and multimedia lab scheduled.

Utilize Media and Materials:
Students will work on the assignment during in the multimedia lab. The multimedia lad is equipped with 26 computers, printer, scanner, CD/DVD burner, rendering machine, interactive whiteboard and LCD projector. All the computers are installed with AVID, Adobe Creative Suite, Adobe Audition, Sonic Sound Forge, Macromedia MX 2004 Suite, and SynchronEyes classroom management software. The lab is sound proof and central air-conditioning system provides comfortable atmosphere.

The Instructor can guide learning and manage the classroom using SynchronEyes. The classroom management software allows monitoring student computers individually or in groups, block applications and web sites, transfers files or locks all student computers. Instructor can also use Smart Board (the interactive white board), the touch-sensitive white board connected to instructors computer and digital projector and allows to control computer applications directly from the display, write notes in digital ink and save the work am image to share with the students.

Require Learner Participation: During the demonstration, the instructor will be broadcasting his desktop to all students computer and students are expected to take notes. After the demonstration, the students will be uploading their web pages and related contents on the web server and test the web page in Mozilla Firefox. When students are practicing the skill and an instructor will monitor their work through SynchronEyes and provide constructive feedback.

Lesson Outline :

Module 1 (30 min.): Describe Design Elements and Theories

Module 2 (30 min.): Describe Color Theories and color harmony

Module 3 (30 min.): Hands-on practice

  Module 1 ~ 30 min. Module 2 ~ 30 min. Module 3 ~ 30 min.

After completing module 1, students will be able to describe the elements and principles of visual design. After completing module 2, student will understand the basics of color harmony and will be able to apply in the design in relation to other design elements and principles. During module 3 students will be assigned a create a web banner using Adobe Photoshop and apply the techniques demonstrated by the instructor.
